Mairi Campbell was born and brought up in a Scots-Irish family in Glasgow, Scotland. From early childhood, encouraged by her father Rory, she was singing traditional ballads in English and Irish Gaelic – both solo and in a group with her siblings.
Mairi also began learning to play tin-whistle age 5, through the ‘Comhaltas’ organisation. She later graduated to play the wooden flute and regularly teaches classes in this instrument.
Mairi trains junior ceili bands and arranges junior music groups each year for the ‘Fleadh’ competitions. She is also leader of the energetic St. James ceili band, playing music for ceili dancers across Scotland.
